The coach

MUTher docsMUTher documentation. MUTher documentation — written and kept up to date by us, not compiled from sources like the Madden pages.

The coach reads the team MUTher saved at your last sync and marks your cards with what it would do. It is on for every account and it runs after every successful sync. It never changes anything in MUT — every move is still yours to make.

The five markers

Every marked card carries one of five actions. Open a marker and you get the reason; open Full plan and you get the evidence behind it.

MarkerWhat it means
Start / replaceA better card for a slot you already field.
Upgrade / EvoThis card can still be built up.
Auction candidateSpare depth you can list in the Auction House.
KeepHolding a slot — leave it where it is.
Needs reviewSomething here does not add up — worth a look.

They are grouped in that order on Insights: act first, keep last.

Needs review is not the coach hedging. It is raised when something conflicts — a card you protected that the advice still wanted sold, a replacement that would not actually work, or a depth-chart entry naming a card your binder does not hold.

A card with no marker at all has not been marked, and that is different from Keep. MUTher only marks a card when it can prove the action from your own binder and depth chart, so "nothing here" means "nothing proven here", never "leave it alone".

The reason, the confidence, and the line about what MUTher could not see

Three things sit in an opened marker, and they come from three different places.

  1. The reason is one to three sentences written by the coach about that card.
  2. The confidence — High, Medium or Low — is capped by what the card data can actually prove. A Start is High only when the card outranks the starter on EA's own effective OVR for that slot. An Upgrade is never higher than Medium, because the Evo path is not something MUTher reads.
  3. The blind-spot line is written by MUTher, not by the coach, and always in the same words. It appears when the advice leans on something MUTher cannot read, and there is at most one per marker:
MUTher can't see your Evo progress — open the card in MUT and check which Evo challenges are still left on it.

The others cover chemistry, the positions a card can fill, and a card with no watched Auction House sales behind it.

Under the reason you will also see a small set of chips: what MUTher observed about the card (In your lineup, Bound to your account, Protected by you, Skill Points read) and, under What MUTher can't see, what it did not (Evo progress not read, Chemistry not read, Only the spots he has played, No watched sales yet). A chip is a caveat, not a veto — the advice still stands, you just know what to check in the game.

What MUTher can and cannot see

After a sync, MUTher reads what EA actually sends about each card. Some of what a player cares about is in there and some of it is not, and the difference is worth knowing before you argue with a marker.

MUTher reads it
Unspent Skill Points on a cardYes — "1 unspent Skill Point, spend it under OVR improvements"
The X-Factor equipped in the slotYes, by name when a sync has tied that id to a name
Whether that X-Factor is switched onYes — equipped and activated are different things, and MUTher says which
How many abilities are equippedYes
How many of your lineup carry each chemistry, and how far each is from its next tierYes
Evo progress — which challenges a card still has leftNo
Which X-Factors or abilities a card could takeNo
What an ability costs in APNo — EA sends no catalog of ability prices
Which of your cards could switch to a different chemistryNo — that is a change you make on the card in MUT

Every report ends with these limits spelled out, under What MUTher couldn't see about your cards. That list is written from the sync it read, so it also tells you when part of a sync did not come back from EA.

How a run works

A run starts on its own after a successful sync. It also starts when you change a coach preference the model actually reads — theme team, playstyle, budget, reserve, or switching the coach back on. Protecting a card does not start one; it re-checks the existing advice instead.

While it runs you get one toast, Coach is re-running, with a bar that drains over MUTher's estimate for your account. The estimate comes from how long your own recent runs took, so it gets more honest the more you use it. Most runs finish well under a minute. If a run outlives its estimate the toast says so — Taking longer than usual. Still running. — rather than pretending to be finished.

When it lands, the toast becomes Coach finished — 7 new markers, 2 changed and links straight to Insights. New and changed markers pulse once for a minute so you can find them. If a run fails, the toast says what failed and offers Retry; nothing about your cards has changed.

You can start one yourself. On Insights the button is Read my cards again; on a card surface it is Re-run analysis. There is a cap of six model runs an hour for one saved team, the sync's own run included — past that MUTher tells you when it refills and keeps showing the report you already have.

Dismissing a marker

If a piece of advice is not for you, open its evidence panel on Insights and press Dismiss. The card goes quiet.

What is dismissed is the *evidence*, not the sentence. MUTher fingerprints the card, the action and the facts behind it, so re-running the coach, syncing again, or reading on another device will not bring it back — but the day the evidence changes, the advice returns, because by then it is a different argument.

Everything you have dismissed is listed in Settings under Dismissed advice, with Restore all.

Switching the coach off

SettingsAI coach. Turning it off stops new analyses immediately and leaves binder sync, your depth chart and your saved reports working. What has already been sent to the AI provider cannot be recalled — see Privacy and data for exactly what is sent and what never is.

Coach advice is informational, based on prices at the moment it ran, and outcomes aren't guaranteed.
